Pathfire and Comtech VIPERSAT
Networks to Demonstrate Combined Efficient Video
Distribution over Satellite at NAB2006
Atlanta, GA, April 24, 2006- Comtech
Vipersat Networks, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary
of Comtech Telecommunications Corp (NASDAQ:
CMTL), and Pathfire, Inc., the leading provider
of digital media distribution and management
solutions to the television, media and entertainment
industries, will be demonstrating a joint video
distribution solution at the National Association
of Broadcasters (NAB) 2006 Conference in Las
Vegas, April 24 - 27, 2006 in booth C3845. The
solution combines Pathfire Direct with Comtech
Vipersat's Dynamic SCPC (dSCPC) technology,
enabling organizations to deliver both streaming
and store-and-forward video over satellite on
either a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint
basis using dynamically managed SCPC transmission
links.
"This hands-off, automated
solution brings a new level of efficiency and
access to news material for journalists throughout
the world. A joint Pathfire Direct and Vipersat
solution is exactly what the industry has been
asking for in recent years," explains Rick
Young, Vice President of Product Management
for Pathfire, Inc. Pathfire Direct enables networks,
broadcasters with remote bureaus or station
groups to easily preview, monitor and move both
store-and-forward and streaming video from one
location to another. New in version 3.0, Pathfire
Direct layers in additional network management
functionality allowing for the easy integration
with network optimization solutions like Comtech
Vipersat's dSCPC platform.
The Vipersat dSCPC platform
manages all phases of ad-hoc SCPC connections.
dSCPC automatically switches up circuits
based on the application, load, or schedule,
and then dynamically adjusts bandwidth based
on traffic needs. "We are extremely pleased
to be partnering with Pathfire in offering a
comprehensive end-to-end video distribution
solution to the broadcast and news gathering
industries," said Roger W. Kent, President
of Comtech Vipersat Networks, Inc. "Traditionally,
the transmission of video files over satellite
has required significant manual effort to schedule
circuits and manage bandwidth and connectivity
for the transfer. By providing a joint solution,
the process is automated, allowing clients to
seamlessly move their video content over satellite."
